Our model has been specifically developed to support and motivate youth to grow and develop into their authentic selves

MISSION

Our mission is to inspire, motivate and support young people to achieve their goals and foster their resiliency in order to become the best version of themselves.  Our passion is to advocate for young people and their families, from a place of compassion, respect, dignity and inclusiveness.

Suicide is among the leading causes of death in 15-24 year old Canadians, second only to accidents; 4,000 people die prematurely each year by suicide.

Schizophrenia is youth's greatest disabler as it strikes most often in the 16 to 30 year age group, affecting an estimated one person in 100.

Surpassed only by injuries, mental disorders in youth are ranked as the second highest hospital care expenditure in Canada.

In Canada, only 1 out of 5 children who need mental health services receives them.

Toronto, Ontario- March 19, 2018- As mental health continues to become part of the mainstream dialogue with large organisations like Bell hosting “Let’s talk” and professional athletes like DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Love and Roberto Osuna speaking up about their experience with anxiety and depression; hoping to make it easier for young people to talk about mental health; an innovative and new service aimed at supporting young people’s mental health, wellness and goals has just been launched across York Region and the GTA.

The Youth Empowerment and Wellness Team (YEWT) is a group of passionate and experienced youth advocators with a track record of excellence in mental health service.  The Team is comprised of psychotherapists, social workers, certified life coaches and a dance movement therapist.  “This idea was the by-product of decades of working in child mental health, addictions and youth justice and seeing the injustice, the gaps in services, and the lack of access to immediate and effective support.  “We need to protect our young people; their rights to have their mental health taken care of in a respectful and dignified way are just as important as adults’” says Aara-Amey-Ayer, co-founder and director of YEWT services.

YEWT services specialises in anxiety and depression prevention and management, addictions treatment, resiliency development, sexuality and gender LGBTTQ, asset mapping and goal setting, court involvement and criminal justice support. They offer a free consultation, affordable rates and they are a mobile service, so they see clients in the community.  They do not have a wait-list, clients are seen within days of their first contact. This really sets them apart from many mental health services, access is close to immediate for a vulnerable population. For more information, email us yewtservices@gmail.com or call 289 879 0496.

When I meet with you for the first time, I will tell you what I tell all of my clients….

We can talk about anything, sex, drugs, rock and roll.

I am not shocked by the choices, risks or potential harms that you may be dealing with. I am non-judgemental and I will be here to compassionately support you as you identify changes that you want to make. I will provide resources, alternatives, information to assist you to determine what your next steps are. I am in your corner, and I have your back.

I am a dedicated and passionate mental health professional. I am a Registered Social Service Worker and a Certified Life Coach. I have worked extensively in social services for 28 years specializing in LGBTTQ and Harm Reduction Services. As a sex positive queer person, I demonstrate a willingness and commitment to dialogue with clients about issues that are difficult to discuss with the adults in your life. Questioning and exploring your sexuality and or gender can be overwhelming without support. I can offer you with a safe space to talk through the process.

I have committed my professional and personal life to working with teens. I am a mother of five children aged 15 -30, who have been instrumental in the development of these services. Also, I am a Sessional Professor in the Social Service Worker’s Program at Seneca College. This part of my work allows me to engage and problem solve with young adults each semester.

I am a favorite among teens, due to my informal and empowered approach to working with youth. Young people often trust me to disclose their struggles and challenges.  I utilizes my sense of humour, my extraordinary volume and my contagious enthusiasm to engage with youth from all walks of life. I offers youth a variety of creative ways to identify and address issues. Including art, music, spoken word, social media and video. I seeks out innovative and progressive tools to offer you and I specializes in creative individual care plans.

This is the start of your journey and I am here to listen and guide you. We will work together to see what methods of treatment work. Using methods such as meditation, yoga, goal setting, CBT and/or mindfulness we will create a plan that works for you.  I am not here to say I understand what is going on with you and how you feel, what I want is to make sure that for the future you have the skills to manage your issues and attain your goals. My job is to help you become the best version of yourself. This is your path I am but a guide.

I am an enthusiastic, compassionate, dedicated and open minded professional. I will listen to you, support you, offer you feedback, challenge you, champion your hopes and dreams and give you a safe space to explore the challenges and changes you are going through. My approach is simple- you tell me what you want to change in your life, and I will give you the tools and guide you through the process. My focus is on recovery in all areas of your life, bridging the gaps between mental health, physical health, spiritual health, emotional health and social well being. I use a creative and innovative process to inspire you to see yourself the way to want to be seen.  I am flexible with schedules and can offer you FaceTime, phone, or Skype sessions if you can’t meet in person. My programs are based on research, they are progressive and individually created just for you.
