 and Durham Regions)

Our model has been specifically developed to support and motivate youth to grow and develop into their authentic selves

MISSION

Our mission is to inspire, motivate and support young people to achieve their goals and foster their resiliency in order to become the best version of themselves.  Our passion is to advocate for young people and their families, from a place of compassion, respect, dignity and inclusiveness.

Suicide is among the leading causes of death in 15-24 year old Canadians, second only to accidents; 4,000 people die prematurely each year by suicide.

Schizophrenia is youth's greatest disabler as it strikes most often in the 16 to 30 year age group, affecting an estimated one person in 100.

Surpassed only by injuries, mental disorders in youth are ranked as the second highest hospital care expenditure in Canada.

In Canada, only 1 out of 5 children who need mental health services receives them.

Toronto, Ontario- March 19, 2018- As mental health continues to become part of the mainstream dialogue with large organisations like Bell hosting “Let’s talk” and professional athletes like DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Love and Roberto Osuna speaking up about their experience with anxiety and depression; hoping to make it easier for young people to talk about mental health; an innovative and new service aimed at supporting young people’s mental health, wellness and goals has just been launched across York Region and the GTA.

The Youth Empowerment and Wellness Team (YEWT) is a group of passionate and experienced youth advocators with a track record of excellence in mental health service.  The Team is comprised of psychotherapists, social workers, certified life coaches and a dance movement therapist.  “This idea was the by-product of decades of working in child mental health, addictions and youth justice and seeing the injustice, the gaps in services, and the lack of access to immediate and effective support.  “We need to protect our young people; their rights to have their mental health taken care of in a respectful and dignified way are just as important as adults’” says Aara-Amey-Ayer, co-founder and director of YEWT services.

YEWT services specialises in anxiety and depression prevention and management, addictions treatment, resiliency development, sexuality and gender LGBTTQ, asset mapping and goal setting, court involvement and criminal justice support. They offer a free consultation, affordable rates and they are a mobile service, so they see clients in the community.  They do not have a wait-list, clients are seen within days of their first contact. This really sets them apart from many mental health services, access is close to immediate for a vulnerable population. For more information, email us yewtservices@gmail.com or call 289 879 0496.
